How does it work?
The science behind Embrace…
Embrace is unique because it measures both movement and physiological signs from deep within your brain, which produce activity in your skin, to detect seizures
One of the physiological signs it measures is your Electrodermal activity (or Galvanic Skin Response), which is triggered when you’re really excited or stressed
It’s also been shown that seizures trigger this same response
So the combined measure of Electrodermal activity, movement and other physiological signs makes Embrace highly accurate in seizure detection.
What kind of seizures does it detect?
Embrace is able to detect seizures that produce a Galvanic Skin Response. This is usually convulsive seizures, e.g. tonic-clonic seizures.
What else does it do?
The Empatica Mate App is a free electronic diary (e-diary) that summarises the data from the watch and reflects information captured throughout the day.
So it allows you to monitor potential seizure triggers, such as:
All of this data is stored in the Empatica Mate App, so that you can easily keep track of these triggers, as well as schedule medication reminders, and manually log additional events from your day.
Not only is it a highly accurate activity and seizure monitor, it also has a sleek and modern design.
The Embrace is also waterproof (IP67 rating), meaning it can withstand being submerged in water up to 1m deep for up to 30 minutes. In other words, the Embrace can survive sweat, rain, showers, snowball-fights, etc.
You can also swim with it, as long as you are not swimming in salt water. And Embrace should not be submerged in a hot tub, due to the pressure of the jets, or worn while deep-sea diving.
From children, to style-conscious teenagers, to professional business men and women, Embrace will suit anyone’s style. An Apple or Smartphone is required and must be nearby to collect information from the watch and send alerts on.
How are my carers alerted?
When a seizure occurs, the Empatica Alert App sends an alert via a bluetooth-connected smartphone to your loved one or carer’s phone via call and text message.
Both the voice call and text alert will tell your carers or family members that you are having a seizure, e.g.
“This is an Embrace alert. Ben needs your help.”
An Alert Location feature is now available (only with Standard and Plus subscriptions).
This means your carers will receive a link with your precise GPS location via SMS when Embrace detects a seizure.
Knowing where you are during a seizure will help your carers find you when you need their help.
Does the Embrace require a subscription?
Empatica offers three types of subscription plans, which you can purchase directly from them through the Alert App.
If you don’t sign up for the Embrace subscription, you will not be able to alert your loved ones when you have a seizure.
Just as any mobile phone requires a contract, the Embrace will need the subscription to maintain all of its call and text functions.

Unfortunately, if the packaging has been opened, we cannot accept returns unless the product is faulty. This is for hygiene reasons, as Embrace has sensors that lie against the skin.

Q: How can I set up my Embrace watch?
A: You can download the Alert app (for iOS or Android devices) directly from your Empatica Account.
In our On-boarding manuals you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to download the Alert app and pair your Embrace watch. The manuals also cover some basic troubleshooting tips.
Q: How can I check if my Embrace is working?
A: You can check whether Embrace watch is working by tapping once on the watch surface: if you can see the white and blue lights indicating time, it means your Embrace is still active (please note that Embrace lights/vibrations are disabled when the Night Mode is on).
To check if everything is working correctly open the Alert app and take a look at the status bar at the top of the Alert Status Page.
Q: Alert app: No data connection. What should I do?
A: If you see the following warning: "No Data Connection" in your Alert app status page, it means your phone isn't connected to Internet. Embrace will still record your physiological data, but alert calls and SMS will not be sent to the caregiver if Embrace detects a seizure.
For the Embrace to function properly please make sure that your paired smartphone is always connected to Internet via WiFi or your mobile data.
Q: Alert app: Embrace not found. What should I do?
A: If the status page of your Alert App shows "Embrace not found”, check if your Embrace is in the Bluetooth range of the paired smartphone and if it’s not, move it closer to the phone. Embrace should reconnect automatically.
If your Embrace is charged, it is close to the paired smartphone but the error message “Embrace not found” is still displayed in the Alert app:
Turn off Bluetooth on your paired smartphone and turn it back on
Force the app to close and open it again
If you still see the “Embrace not found” message, try the following steps:
Forget the Embrace from your smartphone, log out of the Alert app and login again.
Restore pairing from Alert app>>Settings>>My Embrace>>Restore Pairing
Make sure that the Embrace is charged and it is close to the smartphone when pairing.
Should the warning sign persist, report the issue from the Support section of the Alert App.
Q: Why do I need a subscription?
A: The Alert app notifies your loved ones when you need help. This feature is only available with the subscription as the app will send automated phone calls and SMS to your caregivers.

Absolute godsend. My son, who is 20, had started having seizures in Jan 17 for no apparent reason in his sleep. The real issue was afterwards he is very sick on 2 of the occasions we did not hear him but thanks to the watch the 3rd occasion we were sent a text and a phone call alerting us. We were by his side and putting him into the recovery position within a minute. This has allowed us to sleep in the confidence that we will be alerted if my son needs help.
