It’s really easy to set up – you just plug it in between your phone and the wall socket.
If an untrusted number calls you, trueCall intercepts the call and plays the caller a message. For example:
“Hello – we don’t accept marketing calls. If you are a friend, family member or invited caller, please press ‘1’. If you are a cold caller, please hang up and don’t call again.”
It then puts the caller on hold and rings your phone. When you pick up, trueCall announces who the caller is, and you can choose whether to accept the call, reject the call (and block all future calls from that number), or send the caller to the built-in answering machine.
By doing this, you will be creating a list of trusted numbers, and a list of numbers to block.
In trials, 98% of telemarketers hung up when they heard this message and, of course, automated and silent calls can’t get through.
It doesn’t end there - you can optionally manage and control your trueCall unit online through your personal Internet Control Panel (see example here).

Q: Does trueCall Secure offer any protection for those suffering from dementia?
A: If you want even more protection trueCall Secure has a dementia setting called ‘Trusted callers only’. Trusted callers get through, but all other callers are blocked with your personalised message, for example:-
“Hello - Mary is only accepting calls from friends and family members. If your call is important, please call her son Bob on 07752 XXX XXX or enter your code now.”
Telemarketers and scammers are blocked, but legitimate callers will ring Bob. This guarantees that whenever Mary’s phone rings it will be a trusted caller. Mary uses her phone as normal, and forgets that trueCall Secure is protecting her.

Q: Does trueCall care have any Special features?
Q. Can trueCall Secure work on the same phone line as an alarm unit like the Possum or Tynetec alarm units?
A. The trueCall Secure has been used successfully with Possum and Tynetec alarms (which in effect are a type of telephone in their own right) so this is quite normal. The recommendation would be to connect the alarm to the phone line first then attach the trueCall unit - this ensures that safety calls to/from the alarm unit cannot be blocked.

This is a fantastic bit of kit. It has made such a difference to my elderly mother's wellbeing, and peace of mind to me. It ensures she receives all the nice calls from friends and family and removes the hitherto persistent sales calls which caused her great upset and a constant fear of picking up the phone. I hate to think what her (and my!) state of mind would be now, if it were not for this system. I think everybody should have one!

My mother has dementia and had been getting confused and distressed with all the nuisance calls she was receiving even though she was registered with the TPS. This has had an effect on her confidence and she felt vulnerable in her own home. I cannot tell you the difference that trueCall has made to her quality of independent living.
I bought a trueCall unit and my mother's demeanor improved immediately; she returned to her happy cheerful talkative self and from that point on we have enjoyed a year of harassment free living.
Amazing product! I was quite skeptical that it would stop the numerous cold callers (specifically from India) that my mother was receiving daily. However, overnight they have gone from around 5 a day to none (touch wood!) I would definitely recommend True Call for someone of any age to control the frequency of cold callers.

I was very impressed with the trueCall system. Although it is aimed at people who are visually impaired, it can support and protect any vulnerable person who lives on their own.

Design/ease of use
The device is small and looks smart. There is only one main button on the front of the device. You are encouraged to use your phone handset to access the settings and control your calls. I was impressed by how intuitive the operating system is and the way it communicates and supports the user. The design eliminates the need to rely on your vision, making it very user friendly for people with visual impairment/ blindness, however the support it provides can be of value for people with physical impairment and people in early stages of dementia.

Value for money
There are other devices available for blocking unwanted calls. Some are slightly cheaper than the trueCall, however no other offers such flexible, easy-to-control and manage systems. All other devices rely of the user vision for use.
I believe the trueCall Vi is affordable and good value for money for the service it provides.
