How does Care Messenger benefit your loved one?

  • Reduces the feeling of social isolation, because they can now easily communicate with you
  • They can only be contacted by the people they want to speak to, simply by accepting requests or with a confidential PIN code that you can disclose at your discretion to family members or other trusted parties
  • Reduces the need to introduce them to new and potentially confusing technology, so they can keep in touch more easily


How does it work?

To keep in touch with your loved one, you need access to either the Care Messenger app (free for Apple and Android phones), the online portal (free login provided), or you can send standard text messages (charged at your standard network rates).

  • They receive your messages on their TV screen, so that they can easily see and respond to them
  • They can send a simple response using their remote control, meaning they’re not using unfamiliar and confusing technology
  • Unlimited mobile app users and messages, so all of the family can stay in touch
  • Messages can be set to appear over any programme they’re watching, so you know they’ll get your message if it’s urgent
  • Schedule messages for a particular time – this is ideal if your loved one is prone to forgetting things, so you can give them helpful reminders
  • Select a multiple choice response option – you can define specific answers to your messages, to make responding even easier for your loved one
  • Set messages to be received as an ‘alert bubble’, so that your loved one can view it when convenient for them
  • Set up ‘read receipts’ to make sure you know they’ve read your message, for your peace of mind
  • As the main family carer, you can view all of the messages sent, so that you can keep track of communications
  • No advertising or unsolicited messages, so you know they’re not being hassled


Will you need a subscription?

You will need a subscription to cover the cost of receiving messages to the Care Messenger set top box, which costs just £6 a month including VAT. To make things simpler we've included the first 12 months subscription in this package.

Technical Information

For Care Messenger to be integrated into your television experience you need the following:-

  • Television with HDMI Input
  • Broadband Connection (Messages will be received via your WIFI)

Please ensure there is adequate ventilation around the box and we advise you not to stand on any existing electrical equipment e.g. skybox, dvd player etc. It will need a clear line of vision to operate the remote

Care Messenger is compatible with Sky, Virgin, BT Vision, please check for other providers.

Care Messenger comes with Freeview and will replace any current Freeview Box.

Q: I have a question that’s not answered below. What should I do?

A: If you have a question, please click here to get in touch. We'll be happy to answer any queries you may have.

Q: Do I have to have a special television?
A: No - Care Messenger works with a standard television. It does need an HDMI connection though which is a very standard connection for most TVs.

Q: How secure is Care Messenger?
A: The Care Messenger system only allows messages to be sent to users if they have accepted link requests, but we can help you if messages become annoying to you, just let us know.
Q: Does Care Messenger work with my TV provider e.g. Sky, Virgin, BT Vision, Freeview box?
A: Yes, Care Messenger works no matter what TV system you use, clear instructions for all TV providers are included in the box, or we can arrange an engineer to set it up for you if you like (but most people have a friend or relative who can follow the instructions!)

Q: How do I create an avatar (picture of myself to identify me as the message sender)?
A: App users can do this by clicking on profile, and choosing the relevant option. You can use any photo from your phone, or use your camera to take a new one if you wish. If you use the web portal just click on your user name at the top right where you will have the same options to upload a photo from your PC.

Q: Is there a monthly charge for Care Messenger?
A: Sending messages is free, no matter how many people send them. But to receive them on a TV you will need a resident account, which costs £6 per month.

Q: Can I send messages with any mobile phone?
A: You only need a mobile phone if you want to send messages. If you are using Care Messenger on your TV this isn't relevant – we do have apps for Android and iOS users, but if you are more comfortable with SMS Text Messages we can sort that out for you too.

Q: Can I ask questions?
A: Yes, type your question in the subject or body fields, you can add choices for the receiver to select by clicking on the + icon in the CHOICES section.

Q: Can I send messages from anywhere in the world?
A: Yes, if you use the website, iOS or Android apps you can send messages from anywhere. SMS text messages can only be sent from the UK for now

Q: Does the television have to be switched on to receive the message?
A: If you send a message while the TV is switched off it will hang around until someone switches it on, no messages should ever be missed! Of course, you will have to wait for a response until the receiver has read it!

My mother has recently returned from a spell in hospital and we are using the system much more - CM has really come into its own. She is able to keep on top of all her daily medication and numerous appointments. Also, a number of family members have been using CM to great effect - mother absolutely loves getting messages from everyone. Local council Home Help visiting my mother have been impressed with CM. In short, CM is a fantastic and fun way to help my mother cope with life at home.
